Design UI UX in an optimal way for the human memory

As designers, we want to strive to design for the short-term memory in the human brain. The memory load is lighter and the interaction is faster and takes place without errors. If the user needs to identify or retrieve any information from long-term memory it takes time, cognitive load and increases the probability of an error occurring.

Crumbs of hints for the user

For example: Differentiating links that we have already visited with a different color or shape makes it significantly easier for the user to try and remember the status he is in at any given time in the spatial orientation.

User authentication

Planning user authentication by creating a password? Make sure your demands from the user are reasonable. Setting too high a standard for creating passwords may seem like an effective way to increase system security, but will likely make the system more vulnerable. The average user will be forced to write down the password and create an additional burden on his long-term memory. (The need to remember what the password is like the need to remember where you saved it and the way to get there).

Designers today have much greater freedom to design the user experience perfectly. When you think about the design of your product or receive the deliverables from your designer, always think about how you facilitate your users in the long term memory span and that you design for the short term memory. Add an emotional element to the experience your user goes through and thus ensure that your product is memorable and will be positively absorbed in short-term memory. Easing the cognitive load on your user will lower the natural barriers and increase the value he receives for your product.
